Watching a BBC programme showing the life on the Falkland Islands and one thing I've noticed straight away is the mass of Land Rovers from police car, ambulances, fire engines and day to day vehicles (there are other marques dotted about).
non Landies
Looks like Land Rover heaven.

Odd I'm not seeing any Series IIIs at all. I recall seeing a good number of them about in pictures from the war - but I can't conclusively say any of the Landies here are pre-1990. That's an odd point, actually - I'm not a D90/D110 expert like I am with Series, but I could swear the plastic breakfast trim changed at least once since the mid-90s. Nearly all of these seem to be of a single age-block.

There are apparently some dotted about the 700 islands whether they are used or left to decay I can't say from the pictures.

Your last picture's got something absolutely fascinating in it - and I don't mean the 60s Chevrolet(?) panel van. The engine in the near ground is an early Rover 3.5, probably dating from the mid-70s... but it's got very fresh paint on it, if somewhat bleached. Somebody perhaps rebuilt it and planned to stick it back in a truck and never got around to it, maybe - but the rocker covers and carburetors identify it absolutely as an early model from well before the war. Some wealthy-ish toff may've had a brand new Rangey on the islands, in contrast with all the old campaigners that have filed in since.

According to a blog from one of the islanders, 'nothing leaves the islands unless it's of value' so people just dump stuff in small dump sites around the islands.
It may of been taken from an FC101.

Your FC101 guess may be correct. It's still odd to see something that old, clean, and well preserved standing out like a clearly abandoned beacon.

I see no problem here

It may of just been put there quite recently. I can't find any further photos of that area and all the info I have on the picture is it was taken in june 2012 titled 'Port Howard recycling'.

And, I believe the governor uses a late model Discovery, it used to be a vintage London Taxi, but they retired it 5 years ago.

This is the present Governor Nigel Haywood's car (as of November 2014).
Old taxi

It still looks the part, but it just doesn't have the unusual mixture of charm and presence that the old FX4 did. Definitely more practical for visiting areas outside Port Stanley though.

Ye', I don't thing the Governor of Gibraltar's car would be appropriate somehow.
I shouldn't think a Tesla would suit the territory.

Wow, that's fantastic. Probably the only Model S in use as a state vehicle in the world, and no doubt the only British territorial governor to use an American car (though that one was probably assembled in the Netherlands).

The variety of vehicles used by Governors is the various territories is amazing.

That’s not the Governor’s car, it’s the Chief Minister’s car. The Governor has a Jaguar with a silver crown instead of a number plate. https://www.flickr.com/photos/snapdra…
